I got an invitation to a primary school to be interviewed by a group of their 'reading ambassadors'. I had to confess that I didn’t know what a reading ambassador was. I was delighted to find out that they have several very important tasks. All I knew was that they were going to ask me a lot of questions about writing and being the author of 'Windy B The Christmas Lights' and 'Windy B The Snow Race'.
A very important part of the job of the reading ambassador is to encourage others in their class to read books. Depending on their age and the class they are in, they also share book reviews and tell their classmates about books they have read and enjoyed.
When the time came for the reading ambassadors to ask me their questions, I really had no idea what to expect. They came up with some brilliant questions, which made me reflect on my own writing. One of the questions which we spent the most time on was, 'Who or what inspires you to write books?' This is probably THE key question about why you sit down and create something in word form, or in my case, in word and picture form. You have to have somebody in mind when you write a book. There's no real point writing it just for yourself.
